Rama and Manubhai Desai College of Music and Dance
Vibrant and informal ambience for learning -An alluring rhythm in form just as in music and dance, relatable to its function
A sustainable solution by addition of spaces, and retention of existing building rather than demolishing it
Vallabh Vidhya Nagar had a little presence of art amongst the students and people. Charotar Vidhya Mandal decided to be the brave heart and chose to build a dedicated school building in a remote corner of the campus.T he program required us to build for new facilities, demolishing certain parts of the existing unused school. Vibrant spaces were designed since they believed in a more natural way of learning to keep it informal, as they don’t encourage formal study.
Kamal Patel is the alumni of this institute had a flair of intricate behavioral understanding which led to informal yet visually dynamic spaces in the form of a shell covered upon the existing building. The space between the shell and existing wall acts as a natural climatic barrier. An excellent shadow gets cast due to that. A big open to sky dramatic stage is created towards the garden, connecting the music and the dance zone, jharokha, and long corridor spaces were for individual experimental class. The building has its form and function go hand in hand. Spaces are crafted for students to sit and experiment on their personal choice of music and dance. The artwork and the front entrance give it a fresh avatar.
