Kotambi Cricket Stadium

The facade depicts the very motion of the cricket ball while bouncing through its pitch by the players.

Every building must have its own soul ~ Louis I Khan, ‘Kotambi Cricket Stadium’ derives its soul from the city of Vad ( banyan tree) “Vadodara”.

The concept of the structure is extracted from the action of pitching. The facade defines the reducing

parabolic movement of the ball with decreasing radius, furthermore, the facade depicts as the soft

petals of a banyan tree with dazzling shadow effect all day. The softness of the facade is

contradicted by the strong columns derived from the trunk of the tree, which is carved out to show the

stiffness and safety factor for this large-scale structure. The very highlight about the structure is that it

has been planned efficiently to satisfy its purpose with an aesthetic

sense. The design and colour of Kotambi Stadium perfectly reflect the atmosphere of the city.

The massive entrance elevates the visitors from the ground to the podium level.

The common spaces between the podium level and corridor at entry-level open up to the gathering

spaces with magnificent views due to light and shadow through the facade.

The podium divides the stadium into upper and lower bowls and each bowl is subdivided into two

halves with a wide corridor after every 8 rows of seating. The upper bowl consists of two VIP boxes

and because of its soft archly form it standouts as great mass chunks with fascinating views.

All in all the structure successfully creates a sense of curiosity to expect the unexpected!
